We had great pleasure to learn, directly from the University of Edinburgh’s Head of the School of Mathematics, about the creation of their new “Patricia Hiddleston Summer Scholarship“. The scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2018, to Kate Maurer, for her research project on modelling the dispersion of particles in the ocean, entitled ‘Markov chain models of ocean dispersion’. And, we were delighted to meet Nancy Eagles, who is the 2019 recipient of the Pat Hiddleston Scholarship (see photograph below of Nancy with the Hiddleston family). This special scholarship, in the name of our inspirational former Headmistress, who achieved a double first class honours degree and was the first woman to be awarded the Napier medal for mathematics in 1956 at Edinburgh University, ensures that Pat’s legacy lives on even further. Congratulations and very best wishes to both Nancy and Kate!
